Hello! I’m Endo, a 4th year student at Inagaki Seminar. In this week’s blog, I’ll talk about the fieldwork in Nakaminato in Ibaraki Prefecture to make MMM’s work, and the third seminar activity on April 21st.
MMM starts in earnest
MMM (Minato Media Museum) is held in Nakaminato, Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Last year, it was canceled due to the influence of Corona, but since MMM is scheduled to be held this year, so we’re planning to participate in the Inagaki seminar as well. Several seminar members visited Nakaminato to get inspiration for making artworks, as well as a preview of the exhibition place.
・ Nakaminato Station
Around Nakaminato Station. There is a famous cat stationmaster.
・Osakana Ichiba
A fish market near the sea. It is a popular tourist attraction in Nakaminato where you can buy fresh seafood.
・Abandoned train
Although it is no longer in use, a historic abandoned train is preserved near Nakaminato Station. This is also one of the candidates for this exhibition location .
By visiting Nakaminato’s tourist attractions and exhibition places, we came up with various ideas for our works. We’ll discuss this idea in the next seminar time.
・ 4/21 3rd seminar activity
4/21 was the third seminar activity. First, it started with the announcement of the “Zenmai” . This time, a seminar member who loves cats announced about “Cat Island”! This term refers to an island where the number of cats on the island is equal to or greater than the population of the island. .. I also wanted to go.
Next, We presented personal research ideas. The second and third graders who newly entered the seminar also thought deeply and came up with individual research proposals. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of works will be made, such as images, ZINE, and stump art.
And in the second half, we talked about MMM. After going Nakaminato fieldwork, we decided not to create a work that expresses Nakaminato from the outside, but to create a work in the direction of having people living in Nakaminato “inside” teach us the goodness of Nakaminato. The outline of the work has not been decided clearly, but we will continue to discuss it and proceed with the production of the work in cooperation with all the seminar students.
